Peace With Pain

One-on-one phone support for people living with chronic pain
Fifty minutes on the phone with someone who has lived with pain for thirty years — four spinal surgeries, fibromyalgia, arthritis, and most days spent in bed. Not a clinic. Not a coach with a worksheet. A person who understands.
I can't take your pain away. Nobody can. But I can help you stop suffering quite so much inside it.
Faith, hope and love — the three that abide. A gift I was given years ago; it has been my mark ever since.
Some of us have been called the invisible people — pain keeps us from church, from friends, from weddings and funerals and ordinary life. If any of this sounds like your week, you're in the right place.
One
You've done the appointments, the scans, the supplements, the specialists — and you're still in pain and out of ideas.
Two
The people who love you have stopped knowing what to say, and you've stopped trying to explain.
Three
Something in you still reaches for meaning and for God, even on the days you're angry about all of it.
Four
You don't want a lecture or a cure. You want one honest hour with someone who has actually been here.
We talk on the phone for fifty minutes. No video, no getting dressed, no leaving the bed if that's where you are. You can lie down the whole time — I usually am.
You tell me what's actually happening. I listen properly, then we work on what would make the next few weeks more bearable — one or two real things, not a program.
If prayer is part of your life, we can end there. If it isn't, we won't. Either is welcome.
You won't have to justify your pain or make it sound smaller than it is.
Small, specific, sized to the energy you actually have — not the energy a well person has.
What has helped me on the floor of the bad days, described plainly enough to use.
How to tell a husband, a daughter, a friend what you need — and what you can't do.
Not everything. One thing that matters to you, made possible again.
I take about six calls a week — that is what my body allows, and what lets me give each one my whole attention. If the week is full I will put you on the list and write to you as soon as a place opens.
Payment is due before the call. Reschedule any time — and if you have booked four sessions and decide not to use them all, write to me and I will refund the ones you have not used. If cost is the only thing standing in the way, write to me anyway; we will work something out.

About Elizabeth Ann
I was a nurse until four spinal surgeries ended that. Fibromyalgia and arthritis came after. My mobility has narrowed year by year, and I now spend most of the day in bed.
In those years I spent thousands of dollars and a great deal of hope on supplements, alternative therapies, pain specialists and everything in between. Very little helped. Most of it didn't. I know the difference now, and I'll tell you honestly which is which.
What changed things wasn't a treatment. It was learning that pain is physical, and suffering is the response — and that the response is, more often than we believe, a choice. Prayer, meditation, gratitude and stubborn honesty are how I make that choice most days.
I have a Facebook page Prayers for Pain where I have prayed with about fifty thousand people living with pain. This is the closer, quieter version of that work: one person, one phone call, my whole attention.
My credential isn't a certificate. It's duration — and the fact that I'm still willing to pick up the phone.

My book, yours to keep. Years of pain, four failed spinal surgeries, and a long argument with God — written as a conversation with the still, small voice that finally answered. Short chapters, meant to be read lying down.
The full PDF, no charge. I'll also write to you now and then with something honest. Leave whenever you like; I never share your address.

Let me be clear about what I’m offering.
Not medical care. I'm not practicing as a nurse. Nothing here is diagnosis, treatment, or a substitute for your doctors — keep them, and keep talking to them.
Not therapy or counseling. This is peer support and companionship from someone who lives it, not clinical mental-health treatment.
Not a cure, and no promises about your pain. I won't tell you what will work for your body. I'll tell you what helped mine and how I think about it.
Not a crisis line. If you're in danger or thinking of harming yourself, please call 911 or your local emergency number now. I've been in that dark, and it deserves faster help than my calendar.
You've waited long enough for something in this to change. Write to me and tell me what's going on — I answer every message myself.
